What is ONDC in ecommerce?

Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) is a network based on open protocol and will enable local commerce across segments, such as mobility, grocery, food order and delivery, hotel booking and travel, among others, to be discovered and engaged by any network-enabled application.

Launched as a pilot project on April 19, 2022. Incorporated as a private non-profit (Section 8) company Zero registration charges. Uttar Pradesh became the first state to integrate ODOP mart with ONDC . PM Narendra Modi became the brand ambassador.  Supports all categories including grocery, fashion, home,handicrafts, online ticketing, agriculture and insurance among others.

The Number Crunch

19 cities selling goods on ONDC. I150 retailers on boarded. Uttar Pradesh became the first state to integrate ODOP mart with ONDC . 7 entities live - one buyer app (Paytm), five seller apps (Digiit, Gofrugal, Growth Falcons, eSamudaay and SellerApp) and one logistics provider app (LoadShare).  20 government and private organizations have confirmed investments worth $33.34 Mn. >51% stake acquired by Punjab National Bank, State Bank Of India, Kotak Mahindra Bank, HDFC Bank, Axis Bank, SIDBI, ICICI & BSE Investments.

100 cities to connect by October 2022. To sign up 900 Mn digital buyers by 2027 Other Targets In Focus. Generate 3 Bn orders per month. Bring 15 Mn neighbourhood shops online.  Ecommerce in 75,000 pin codes in India. To onboard 3 Cr sellers and 1 Cr retail merchant online.
